Welcome Back to School!
Reminders & General Information

Readiness Checklist!

  1. Update Brightwheel
Update your child’s Brightwheel profile to make sure we have up-to-date information. Most importantly:

    1. Parents/Guardian name and phone numbers

    2. Emergency contact name and phone numbers

    3. Allergies

    4. Student profile photo, so our drivers and new teachers can identify your child

  2. Authorize our pick up (if applicable)
Give your child’s day school the authorization to release them to Live Love Learn Chinese for pick up each day. This is most important for the lower elementary schools and San Carlos Charter.

  3. Prepare your child for LLLC pick up process
Share or remind your child about LLLC pick up process and details, which we will provide via Brightwheel messaging within two weeks of school starting.

  4. Label Everything
Water bottles, lunch boxes, jackets, backpacks — it saves so much time and avoids lost items!

  5. Notify us of planned absences
If you plan to return to school after Aug 20, please let us know in advance to prevent unnecessary worry and afterschool schedule delays on the first day back to school. Also, if you have recurring days where your child will not attend LLLC or will arrive late or leave early, please let us know as well!

  6. Practice Chinese at Home (Just a Little!)
Saying "hello" (你好) or "thank you" (谢谢) in Chinese at home can boost your child’s confidence and get them back in the mood for learning. Don’t worry if you're not fluent — showing interest in the language is powerful!

  7. Set a Positive Tone
As you talk about starting school again (or starting with us as a new afterschool), speak positively! You have a powerful impact on your child’s perceptions and attitudes. A positive attitude can influence your child’s enthusiasm and willingness to embrace the learning environment.

General Information and Reminders

San Carlos School Calendar

View the school calendar here as well as on our lobby bulletin board: 📅 San Carlos District Calendar

We follow the San Carlos School District calendar for afterschool hours and holidays. When the school district has a non-student day or holiday, then afterschool is also closed. When the school district is on Minimum Day schedule, we are also following the Minimum Day schedule. We do our best to make school days as seamless as possible for you.

On non-student days or school holidays, we offer Day Camp for your convenience. Enroll here: Drop in Day Camp

Daily Class Schedule & Elective Options

Two weeks before school starts, we will publish the following via Brightwheel messaging to you directly. Please start checking Brightwheel for updates!

  • Your child’s class assignment

  • Class schedules for each level and dismissal/pick up windows

  • Fall elective options, scheduled outside of regular class time to support a well-rounded development

  • Day school pick up details, driver name, pick up location, and expected process

Pick Up From Day School

We partner with San Carlos lower elementary schools to ensure a smooth pick up process for our students. The school administration and teachers will know your child is enrolled at LLLC as we provide them with a list of our students before school starts. Your child’s day school will also know who our van driver is, has our co-founder’s and team’s direct phone numbers for immediate questions, and have partnered with us on our pick up schedule, process, and our designated van parking location. Together with the San Carlos schools, we ensure a safe and smooth transition for your child.

Our van drivers are trusted team members, each dedicated to a specific school so children will have consistency in knowing their driver/teacher, and each van seat is equipped with a car seat. We will update you promptly every day on Brightwheel (via a “check in” notification) once your child is safely on the van.

For everyone’s safety and schedule timeliness, we kindly ask parents to abide by the following:

  • Not to visit school during pick-up time — if your child sees you, they may become attached and delay the schedule for the rest of the group.

  • Stay phone-connected during pick-up hours in case we need to reach you.

  • Notify us via Brightwheel messaging an hour in advance of pick up time if your child will be absent from pick up and LLLC, to prevent our drivers and staff from unnecessary urgent concern, from delaying all other student schedules, and to avoid a fee for non-notification.

Students in Action!

Our teacher’s will continue to snap photos of students in action at LLLC and load photos to Brightwheel, shared only to your child’s class. Photos are loaded when teacher’s have a moment of time - may be during the afternoon or in the evening.

You can also continue to expect newsletters for each class, to keep you informed about their learnings and to help you support them at home in continued practice.

Communications with our Team

We use Brightwheel to communicate with families - for all broader communications, newsletters and direct messages for any topic, from absences, incidents, or early pick-ups. Please communicate with us through the app! If there are days where your child is absent or will not need to be picked up by our driver, please message us to let us know an hour in advance, so our driver and team are not worried and waiting at the school. Please don’t hesitate to message us here on Brightwheel if you have questions or want to connect with us.

Volunteering

If you’re interested in becoming a Room Parent or supporting classroom volunteering opportunities, we’d love to have you involved! Just let us know, and we’ll reach out when opportunities come up throughout the year.

Other LLLC Events and Activities

Check our our school calendar on the lobby bulletin board for other general LLLC events - some events related to afterschool program and others may be community or cultural events. If you’re interested in getting involved to help out, we’d love to have you! Let us know if an event sparks your interest!
